08 Ene WhatsApp: Everything Coming in 2025
WhatsApp already offers a feature to transcribe voice messages. This is excellent news for those who couldn’t listen to received audio messages or preferred reading text over listening. However, that’s not all—some upcoming updates for next year have been leaked.
“The transcriptions are generated on your phone so that no one, not even WhatsApp, can listen to or read them. Available in selected languages,” the company explained on its social media platforms. The Spanish language is available. Currently, more than 2 billion people around the world use this instant messaging platform.

The newly announced feature is particularly recommended in situations where listening to audio is inconvenient. “It ensures improved communication regardless of the user’s circumstances or environment,” added the app.

To enable the new feature, users must go to Settings > Chats > Voice Message Transcriptions and activate it. In some cases, WhatsApp may prompt users to enable voice message transcription directly when an audio message is received.

“These transcriptions are fully generated on the device, ensuring that no one else can listen to your voice notes or access the transcribed content, preserving privacy and security,” the company explained. To take advantage of this tool, users must also download a language data pack.

Undoubtedly, on-device transcription improves the speed and efficiency of the transcription process. Previously, a third-party app was required for transcription, but now it is built directly into the chat.

The company clarified that this new feature aligns with its “commitment to user privacy and data protection,” pointing to other messaging services that may rely on cloud-based transcription services.

Various tech-focused media outlets revealed that WhatsApp is working on a series of new features for next year. Among the updates are GIF editing, the ability to mention groups in statuses, and adding colored profile pictures in groups and communities.

Currently, it is only possible to share GIFs as they are downloaded. However, with the new feature, users will be able to edit the content before sending it. The company is also reportedly developing an option to mention groups directly in status updates. For now, it is only possible to mention up to five contacts, which limits interaction with groups.

Finally, one of the updates WhatsApp could introduce in 2025 is the ability to add colored profile pictures to group chats and communities. Group profiles without a customized photo currently appear in gray, so with the new feature, these icons would be filled with colors.

WhatsApp recently added Likes and mentions in statuses. With this, users can react to statuses, just like on Instagram.
