News about one of the most anticipated survival games, Subnautica 2

Since its first mention in a Krafton financial report, fans of survival experiences have been waiting for news about Subnautica 2. The title, which is scheduled to be released sometime in 2024, has barely shared details of its experience beyond the fact that it will be set on a totally new planet after the events of Below Zero. As a result, fans have been waiting for more information about the adventure for months… Without knowing that the creators were already publishing images within the original Subnautica.

As initially reported by Eurogamer, the Unknown Worlds team has taken advantage of a mechanic in its title to share unpublished screenshots of Subnautica 2. Specifically, the developers have been using Time Capsules; a component available to craft during the adventure that allows players to leave messages and images to be found by other users.

Player nomorefunnynumber has shared the latest Time Capsule he found in Subnautica via Reddit because of the unusual image attached. As a moderator on the same post points out, Time Capsules are found in Subnautica 1. The screenshot is from the upcoming Subnautica 2. So we’re not talking about an easter egg referencing the new Unknown Worlds project, but rather a first real look at the team’s next adventure. It’s not a big deal, at least for now, but it’s a sign that the developers are still working on their underwater experience.

Many players were freaked out to learn that, according to Krafton’s first statement regarding the Unknown Worlds project, Subnautica 2 was being presented as a game as a service. However, the studio was quick to clarify the situation, saying that its business model will be virtually the same as what we’ve seen so far and that they plan to update the title for many years: “In reference to this topic, we simply plan to update the title for many years, just as we did with the previous two games in the series. Think of our usual Early Access model, but expanded. There will be no Season Passes, Battle Passes or subscriptions.”
