League of Legends Season 3

League of Legends Season 3

Season 3 of League of Legends marks an exciting conclusion to players’ journey throughout the year, bringing updates not only to champions and gameplay balance but also to game modes, controls, player behavior, and much more.

League of Legends launches Season 3 alongside patch 25.17, merging storylines from past seasons such as Spirit Blossom Beyond and Welcome to Noxus. LeBlanc, Yunara, Atakhan, and Xin Zhao will all play key roles as the season’s story unfolds.

This season sets the stage for the 2025 League of Legends World Championship, which returns to China to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Worlds. The tournament will begin in Beijing on October 14, with the finals taking place in Chengdu on November 9.

Xin Zhao, one of LoL’s longest-standing champions, is receiving a full visual update this season. His gameplay remains unchanged, but all of his skins have been refreshed. His current vault skins will be available during patches 25.17 and 25.18.

Upgrades were made to Commando and Imperial Xin Zhao, with the price increasing from 520 RP to 750 RP. Both legacy skins will remain available at their original price until the release of patch 25.17.

Quality of Life Improvements:

  • Individual timers will be added to all jungle camps.
  • Death recap screens will now make it easier to track spell usage.

Apocalyptic Bots:
The PvE Apocalyptic Bots game mode returns in patch 25.17, packed with new content including an extra difficulty tier, new curses, bots, and bosses. “Doom Challenges” will introduce unique objectives each patch for players to overcome in Apocalyptic Bots.

WASD Controls:
To provide both new and veteran players with a more intuitive way to play, LoL will begin testing WASD movement controls as an alternative to the traditional mouse movement.

  • WASD controls will first be implemented on the test environment across several patches, then introduced to normal games, and finally to ranked matches.
  • Both WASD and mouse control schemes will be closely monitored to ensure that neither provides a competitive advantage over the other.

Player Behavior:
Starting with patch 25.18, LoL will take action against accounts involved in inappropriate secondary account use (smurfing). This includes:

  • Boosting (when a player uses another person’s account to climb the ranks).
  • Hitchhiking (when a high-level player uses a fraudulent account to play with a low-level player to artificially boost that player’s rank).

If multiple accounts are involved, action will be taken against all parties. Measures will also target accounts that are botted, sold, bought, or shared. This initiative is driven by Vanguard’s improved detection capabilities and supported by player-submitted “rank manipulation” reports. Secondary accounts used in good faith will not be affected.

Cosmetic Content:

  • New Prestige skins for Sylas and Mel will be available in the Mythic Shop.
  • Prestige skins for Jarvan IV and Zoe will be obtainable through the Act 1 and Act 2 Passes, respectively.
  • In celebration of T1’s victory, the Worlds 2024 Champion Skins will be released in September.
  • Viktor, the Mechanical Herald, will be available in patch 25.19 and will be granted for free to players with Viktor Mastery Level 5 or higher (as of August 4).
