Artificial Intelligence, Gaming, and Technology

In an era where electronic devices are crucial not only for work but also for personal relationships and entertainment—whether through video games, streaming platforms, and more—the development of microprocessors is essential. In this context, AMD has become an indispensable player in the industry. The California-based company is a leader in a market vital for technological advancement. El Destape had an exclusive conversation with Carlos Santabaya, Senior Channel Manager of AMD SSA Components, about AMD’s plans for 2024, the sectors they will focus on in the near future, and how they are embracing Artificial Intelligence, the latest technological revolution.

One of the major innovations AMD is projecting for the latter part of the year is the AMD Ryzen 9000 Series processors for desktop computers, announced by Dr. Lisa Su, the company’s CEO, during the Computex 2024 conference. The advantage of this new processor series lies in its use of the “Zen 5” architecture, which offers a generational increase of approximately 16% in IPC (Instructions Per Clock).

Among this series, which is expected to hit the market around July, Carlos Santabaya highlighted the Ryzen 9 9950X, the fastest consumer desktop processor in the world. Its 16 cores and 32 threads deliver exceptional performance across various workloads, including gaming, content creation, and productivity.

Similarly, Mr. Santabaya also emphasised the arrival in July of the new processors from the Ryzen 5000 Series: the AMD Ryzen 9 5900XT and Ryzen 7 5800XT. The introduction of these products will allow the company to continue supporting and extending the lifespan of the AM4 platform.

“At AMD, we are constantly innovating to provide cutting-edge solutions and products for every type of user and a wide range of diverse industries. In collaboration with strategic partners, we advance computing to address the most significant challenges in the world, both present and future,” explained Carlos Santabaya to El Destape.

The gaming industry has been growing exponentially for years, and AMD is well aware of the importance of not only video games but also the entire ecosystem surrounding them. “Locally, considering the current context and our vision of democratizing technology, the G Series of our Ryzen processors are an ideal option that optimises users’ investments by allowing them to build a PC without needing a dedicated graphics card,” Santabaya explained regarding the development already underway at AMD for the gaming sector, which has seen exponential growth recently.

In this regard, he highlighted the 8000G Series, announced at CES 2024. These are the world’s first processors with a dedicated AI engine, enabling incredible processing and gaming performance. “These Ryzen processors feature Integrated Radeon Graphics, among the fastest in their class, offering next-level power and efficiency,” added Carlos Santabaya.

Another significant recent technological development that is becoming increasingly popular is Artificial Intelligence. AMD is not excluded from this trend, as Santabaya explained: “Our Ryzen AI brand indicates that a CPU has 3 independent AI accelerators working together in perfect harmony, uniquely capable of accelerating AI software.” These processors include a dedicated AI engine designed for cutting-edge AI processing efficiency; an AMD Radeon graphics engine optimised for AI workloads; and Ryzen processor cores with powerful AI capabilities.

“We understand the impact AI is having and will continue to have on users and businesses, which is why we are committed to democratising technology by working with an open-source software strategy rather than a proprietary one. This is crucial for facilitating migration to our platforms,” Santabaya told El Destape, while also noting that AMD will continue to invest steadily in revolutionary innovations to create sustainable and energy-efficient solutions. “Undoubtedly, AMD is on the path to becoming an Artificial Intelligence company,” concluded the executive.
