King of Meat: a game that blends combat, building, and Rick and Morty-style humor

King of Meat, from the new studio Glowmade, will be available soon on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. It’s a game that reminds us how fun it is to play with friends while leaving seriousness behind.

“The main idea is to push people off cliffs,” joked one of its creators, Johnny Hopper. This phrase from the Glowmade co-founder perfectly sums up the spirit of King of Meat. The game is chaos-focused, where up to four players compete and cooperate in a TV show set in the fictional world of Loregok. Players must navigate dungeons filled with enemies, survive ridiculous traps, and overcome cooperative challenges, all while trying to survive and sabotage friends to become the winner. “We wanted to make a game to play with friends. It’s funny, it’s silly, but with solid mechanics underneath. You laugh, push each other, but you also need to reach the end of the level with your team,” explained Mike Green, another creator.

All levels, even those developed by Glowmade, are built with the same creation tools that players will receive. Yes, you’ll be able to create your own levels for other players to use. “We want players to create whatever they can imagine. The best creations will be highlighted in the game’s ‘community,’ categorized by type: lava levels, platforming, puzzles…”

Humor, extreme customization, and crossplay from day one
One question we asked the developers was about the origin of the name—a curiosity many players might have. The answer was surprising: there’s no specific reason behind it. “It’s a silly name. We don’t know what it means, and we don’t know who suggested it,” Hopper admitted. “But what we do know is that we talked about what would happen if we didn’t call it King of Meat, and every other option we came up with was worse.”

Like most games of this type, the title features extensive customization, allowing players to change not only the character’s appearance but also weapons, moves, and even victory celebrations. The good news: similar to Hell Divers 2, you can purchase items in the store with real money or with in-game currency earned by completing levels. Even better, the game supports full crossplay and cross-progression from day one, so you can play with friends on different consoles or continue your progress across multiple devices without starting over.
