13 Ago Samsung Confirms Its Tri-Fold Smartphone and XR Headset
The company has revealed that its first Tri-Fold smartphone will launch before the end of this year, along with its XR headset. This announcement makes it clear that the Korean tech giant is betting on new formats and aims to take the lead in the mass-market segment.

The Galaxy Z TriFold, as it’s unofficially known for now, will feature two inward-folding hinges. This design ensures full screen protection when the device is closed. It’s a notable difference from the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate, whose screen remains partially exposed when folded, giving Samsung a clear advantage in terms of durability.

According to the company, the launch is scheduled for October 2025, and it will be the first Tri-Fold smartphone from a globally recognized brand to hit the international market. Meanwhile, Apple is also preparing to enter the foldable space but is only expected to launch a traditional folding iPhone by late 2026, putting it behind in the competitive race.

Samsung also confirmed that its highly anticipated XR headset running Android will also arrive before the end of the year. It will be the first device of its kind to run an optimized version of Google’s operating system for extended reality, positioning it as a direct alternative to Apple’s Vision Pro, which uses Apple’s own visionOS.

“In the second half of 2025, the MX division will continue to focus on flagship products like foldables and the Galaxy S25 series, while highlighting AI in the A series and strengthening smart functionality in tablets and wearables”

“In addition, it will expand the Galaxy ecosystem with new formats, including XR devices and TriFold smartphones,” Samsung’s report states, clearly outlining its strategic direction.

With the recent success of the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which broke pre-order records in the U.S., it’s evident that more consumers are becoming interested in foldable devices. With the introduction of the Tri-Fold, Samsung not only diversifies its lineup but also strengthens its position against competitors exploring alternative formats.

Of course, the final design of the Tri-Fold is yet to be seen, and it remains to be seen whether it can strike the right balance between durability, usability, and price.
