Tarek Atoui and the Sonic Exploration at the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum

Lebanese artist Tarek Atoui has brought his innovative sound project “At-Tāriq” to the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid. His work immerses visitors in the musical traditions of North Africa and the Arab world through an interactive installation that combines materials such as bronze, textiles, and ceramics. Atoui is known for transforming the auditory experience into a deeply sensory process.

“At-Tāriq” is not just an aesthetic experience; it also challenges how we understand music and listening. His installations invite visitors to explore vibrations, rhythms, and sound textures in an unconventional way. Atoui also incorporates recording and acoustic manipulation techniques that reflect his experimental approach.

The exhibition, open until May 18, marks another step in the growing presence of Arab artists in the global art scene. Through his work, Atoui reinforces the idea that music is not only an art form but also a universal means of communication that transcends cultural and geographical barriers.
