The 10 Best Horror Games to Stream

The 10 Best Horror Games to Stream

Silent Hill 2 Remake

Silent Hill 2 offers a tense, atmospheric experience that will keep you on your toes, and exploration is something you can tackle with your chat. The pace is noticeably slower than in other horror titles, which does a great job of building up the tension and absorbing you into the world.

The Silent Hill 2 remake is new at the time of writing, and it comes with some streaming-specific issues. If you’re a small streamer, it’s critical that you scan the room as if hundreds of larger channels were playing simultaneously – you can get lost in the crowd.

Dead by Daylight

Dead by Daylight is an exceptional multiplayer horror game that has captivated a hardcore audience. In each match, there’s a killer and a group of survivors. The survivors must try to escape, and the killer must stop that from happening.

A human adversary is far scarier than any AI, as it can make quick decisions and plan traps. Characters have unique abilities, and there’s a mountain of nuance and strategy for those willing to learn.

Ultimately, it’s an established game with a fan base that can be difficult to tap into, especially for a small streamer.

That said, if you’re planning on making a horror title your “main” streaming game, this could be a great game to build a community around.

Resident Evil

The original Resident Evil is a horror masterpiece and one of the best titles in the genre. There are plenty of scares, but also plenty of puzzles to solve in the mansion.

Those puzzles make Resident Evil great to stream if you like to interact with the chat. Many passionate players in the fandom know every nook and cranny and usually have no problem offering guidance.

Some streamers loathe backseats, so this is a title to avoid if you fall into that category.

Silent Breath

Bodycam made headlines for its hyper-realistic graphical style.

Silent Breath sends you into the woods at night to search for clues. The more you collect, the more monsters will start chasing you and if they catch you, you’ll be back to the beginning.

The gameplay loop is pretty similar to Slender Man and you have to learn how to evade each monster. The graphics make Silent Breath much more immersive than it should be and it’s a great title to play if you get lost between more popular titles on Twitch.

Silent Breath is pretty short and you’ll see everything it has to offer within an hour, making it great for a shorter session.

Content Warning

Content Warning is a light-hearted horror game that’s perfect for streamers who play in groups.

Your goal in Content Warning is to go viral on social media with silly videos you record with your friends. To do this, you go to a haunted realm at the end of the garden and it’s hilarious to watch your friends get dragged along as a camera operator.

The game even records your voice and collects clips of your “excitement” moments to rewatch later.

Content warning: This is a game where everyone must contribute and is best played with at least three people. The gameplay loop is absurd and there are plenty of minor scares.

Inscryption

Dead Space is a delightfully weird and creepy card game with dozens of tricks up its sleeve.

There are plenty of moments where you can get your community involved and the game isn’t mechanically demanding so you can interact freely.

Of all the games on this list, Inscryption is the best to stream if you don’t know what’s going to happen. The game throws endless weird surprises at you and the best streamers’ reactions are always genuine.

I have a soft spot for this one, having watched it streamed a couple of years ago. It was a blast, but it wouldn’t have had any impact if I’d known what to expect.

Dead Space

Dead Space is a terrifying third-person horror shooter that requires good aim, puzzle-solving skills, and nerves of steel. The original is a classic, and the 2023 remake offers a massive visual upgrade.

Necromorphs are hideous beasts that love to give you a scare from the shadows. In true Dead Space fashion, you must dismember them limb from limb, as headshots are useless.

Jump scares are always great for the audience, and the sci-fi setting is a refreshing change from haunted houses and generic monsters.

Dead Space is an excellent game with plenty of upsides to streaming. The title has a nostalgic following, meaning there’s always interest, and it’s old enough that competition for views is less. You can also finish the game in a few sessions as it lasts roughly 10-12 hours.

Phasmophobia

Phasmophobia needs no introduction, but as it’s soon to be released on consoles, there’s no better time to talk about it.

In Phasmophobia, you’re part of a paranormal investigation team, and you’re sent to some of the creepiest and most cursed locations in the genre. Your group must try to identify the ghost or spirit that haunts each location using a wide array of ghost-hunting tools.

Kinetic Games delivers a masterclass in ambient horror, and your friends offer you little solace as you explore these locations, trying to put on a brave face.

There are some genuine scares in Phasmophobia, and they’re perfect for a stream with a group that’s willing to participate. You can even talk to the ghost with your microphone, adding even more depth to the experience.

Five Nights at Freddy’s

The Five Nights at Freddy’s series is part of horror gaming royalty at this point. The franchise has countless titles, all guaranteed to raise your blood pressure and make you jump out of your seat.

Five Nights at Freddy’s has gained popularity with its creepy animatronics, brutal scares, and surprisingly rich lore.

That story is the last thing you’ll care about if it’s your first time playing the game. FNAF is great for streaming, since, let’s face it, your viewers want to see you get terrified.

As a streamer, you’re worried about the next scare and how not to embarrass yourself at the same time. It’s a great combination, and FNAF is perfect, even if you’re short on time.

If you become a fan of the formula, there are sequels and spin-off titles galore for future streams.

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

I’ve already mentioned the original Resident Evil, but the pacing and puzzle-solving won’t be to everyone’s taste. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is a modern take on the series, putting an emphasis on action and thrilling set pieces.

There are some sudden scares, but Resident Evil 7 leans into juicy, “gross” horror. Inventory management is simpler than in previous games, and it’s hard to get lost, as the path through the game is linear.

The Baker family are fantastic antagonists, each taking you to a different theme of location. You’ll go everywhere, from creepy, run-down houses to booby-trapped mazes. There’s downtime for chat interaction, and you can solve puzzles together.

Resident Evil 8 is also worth a look, but it continues the story of 7, hence the recommendation.
