19 Ago ‘GTA VI’: Rockstar’s new video game
‘GTA VI’ is in its final stages of development. And although Rockstar has not given more details about very specific dates, status of the project and other issues, the hype is in the air. Every time some data or possible technical issue about the future game is leaked, the internet burns, the trending topics skyrocket and players wonder if this new installment will revolutionize the industry like all the others did.
To answer these questions, or at least begin to do so, we have searched the web in search of everything we know so far about the future ‘GTA VI’ and we have answered it. When there is no data, we have conjectured from the different possibilities that are on the table. This is everything we know (or think we know) about ‘GTA VI’.
The game will arrive for PS5 and Xbox in autumn 2025. In the first trailer, Rockstar only talked about 2025, but in its earnings report for the fiscal year that ended in 2024, it focused more on the game.
One thing we knew before the announcement: Rockstar claimed it had been developing the game since before April 2020. If we have to make a comparison, ‘GTA V’ began development in 2008 and was released in 2013, which gave ‘GTA VI’ a tentative date of 2025. Rockstar seemed to pseudo confirm this by talking about releases that will set “new standards in our industry” for fiscal year 2025, that is, starting in 2024.

Another detail provided by Rockstar that made us think that we wouldn’t have to wait five years for development is that the company has already announced that the game will have a “smaller” size and that it will grow over time, which suggests that development will not be as complex as previous installments. At the moment, Rockstar workers have already been asked to stop working remotely and face the last months of development.
We can say with almost complete certainty (although nothing is official) that we will see ‘GTA VI’ on Playstation 5, Xbox Series X / S, as stated in the first trailer and, also with certainty, but possibly some time after the initial launch, as is usual for Rockstar, on PC. In this regard, Take Two CEO Strauss Zelnick stated that “the lack of announcements is not something that is written in stone.” That is, we should not take the absence of announcements as a sign of anything.
It is doubtful that the studio will waste time bringing the game to PS4 and Xbox One, although the history of the franchise and its multiplicity of formats allows for certain doubts. By the way, the low stocks of Sony and Microsoft consoles were what made certain analysts think that 2024 was still early for the launch, and they were right.

In principle, an improved version of the usual RAGE9 of Rockstar games. Chris Klippel said in statements collected by T3 that it will be ahead of its time and that “it will probably be quite incredible.” He also says that “apparently, the goal is to surpass Unreal Engine in performance.” And yes, before you ask: the suffocating level of detail seen in the first preview is real: most of what is seen in the trailer is taken from real sequences of the game, not cinematics, as commented by a graphic designer who worked at Rockstar.
It seems more or less obvious that GTA Online will continue to exist. Its monumental success and how it has grown regardless of the intentions of its creators makes it obvious to think that it will continue to be there, but on the other hand, ‘GTA VI’ will be dedicated to a single-player experience, or at least that part of the gaming experience will continue to exist.

In the Q3 2021 earnings report, Strauss Zelnick stated that they want to “create a powerful single-player experience, a story-driven experience. And Rockstar has always been about great stories and great single-player experiences,” but without closing themselves off to the possibilities that have opened up to them with multiplayer in recent years.

The last official news from Rockstar executives that we have had about the game dates back to May 2023, when Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick spoke about Rockstar Games’ ambitious goals for the video game in an interview with The Aarthi and Sriram Show. He says that “one challenge that Rockstar faces every time there’s a new version of ‘Grand Theft Auto’ is that, on the one hand, it has to be something you’ve never seen before, and it has to reflect the feeling that we have about ‘GTA’. That’s a big challenge for the team. Now, Rockstar’s response is simply to strive for perfection; to strive for nothing less than perfection.”
